Kendra Van de Water is a born disruptor, youth advocate, and policy strategist reshaping how cities respond to violence and community needs. As the co-founder and executive director of YEAH Philly (Youth Empowerment for Advancement Hangout), Kendra has built a model for real community leadership — not performative panels or empty programs, but real action driven by and for young people.
With a background in social work and deep experience shaping public safety policy, Kendra pushes back against traditional systems that criminalize Black youth. She has advised city leaders, nonprofits, and government agencies on building community-centered alternatives to policing, and has been a leading voice on policy changes around youth justice, mental health, and violence prevention.
On the ground and at the table, Kendra moves the same way — loud for the people who are rarely listened to. She believes safety isn’t about control, it’s about investment, accountability, and real opportunity. Through YEAH Philly, she’s helping to build a future where young people don’t just survive — they lead.
